Bruce Arena made his selection for his first camp of his new reign as coach of the national team. As expected it’s entirely MLS players as many clubs won’t release their players for the camp. Also this is critical for many MLS players who have been off for weeks or even months in most cases since the MLS season concluded. All of the European leagues are in full swing.
American fans that are concerned Bruce may go all out with MLS players and neglect our foreign talent need not fear…yet. The players in Europe and abroad who’s league are in session often won’t release their players for a camp. What is interesting is the size of the camp that Bruce brought inviting nearly 8 more players than the last few camps have had. This seems understandable as Bruce is just taking over the team and will want to evaluate many members of the team for himself and explore other options from around the league. It is definitely something to keep an eye on as we prepare for our next friendly in a few weeks and our next crucial qualifier in March.
There are brand new faces including seven making their first appearance (in bold below) and two still working toward becoming eligible to play for team USA (with a * below). Both of the players working toward eligibility are cleared to attend the camp.
