Soccer is the most popular game in the world today. With just over 3 billion fans around the globe, the game’s fandom is unrivaled, and likely never will be. The only sport that could even come close is cricket, and it still lacks more than a billion fans to reach the fandom that soccer enjoys.

However, for a long time, the popularity of the sport was not felt in the United States. While the rest of the world celebrated and attended soccer matches, Americans preferred to stick to their own Major League Sports. Football, basketball, baseball, and hockey were the domineering forces in the USA.

This fact has changed in recent years. The popularity of soccer is on the rise. Take a look at the many bookies at, and you will find that Americans are becoming a lot more interested in soccer matches. In fact, MLS has overtaken the NHL as the fourth most popular sports organization in the country.

Major League Soccer Cup

The Major League Soccer Cup (or MLS Cup) is the championship match concluding the Major League Soccer Playoffs (or MLS Playoffs). Usually, the event takes place near the end of the year, either in late October, or as was the case in 2022, early November.

The inaugural MLS Cup was played in 1996, where D.C. United went up against the LA Galaxy. During that first match, D.C. United managed to defeat the LA Galaxy. However, it was the Galaxy that went on to become the most successful team in the Cup, winning a record of five Cups throughout their history.

The latest iteration of the MLS Cup took place on November 5, 2022. For those who missed out, we are going to do a little look back at the game, and talk about the winners, and what this means for them. So, without further ado, let us take a look at how the MLS Cup 2022 game resolved.

MLS Cup 2022

On November 4, 2022, Los Angeles F.C. played the final game of the 2022 MLS Playoffs against the Philadelphia Union. The game was refereed by Ismail Elfath, and it took place in the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles. Overall, around 22,000 people attended the game, with many more watching from home.

Los Angeles F.C. entered Major League Soccer in 2018. They started off on the right foot, winning in their first five games without a hitch. The Philadelphia Union on the other hand, are a bit more experienced. They’ve been in the MLS since 2010, and played their first playoffs in their sophomore season. Needless to say, both teams came in with a lot of drive and passion, and the tension was high.

By the end of the game, each team had scored three goals. When the final whistle blew, the score was tied, and the game would have to be resolved by penalties. It was in this portion of the game that the Los Angeles team showed their stuff. Scoring a total of 3 penalty goals, as oppose to Philadelphia’s none. In other words, Los Angeles F.C. are the new MLS Cup champions.
