#1 | CM, Ben Bender, Charlotte FC (2001)

Previous Ranking: 2

912 Minutes
Goals: 2
xGoals: 2.3
Assists:
3
xAssists: 1.6
G+A/90: 0.49

Ben scored his second career goal and second goal of the season this past weekend. He now leads all American U21 players in goal contributions (5) and now sits atop the top spot for the first time.

#2 | LB, John Tolkin, New York Red Bulls (2002)

Previous Ranking: 3

1069 minutes
Goals:
0
xGoals: 0.6
Assists: 0
xAssists: 0.5
G+A/90: 0.0

John returned to the starting lineup this past weekend after being in health and safety protocols due to COVID. John hasn’t produced a ton of xG or xA in a bit, but he’s been one of the most consistent and positive performers of any American U21 all season. He also did this in an US Open Cup match:

#3 | WING, Cade Cowell, San Jose Earthquakes (2003)

Previous Ranking: 6

817 minutes
Goals:
1
xGoals: 0.9
Assists: 3
xAssists: 1.1
G+A/90: 0.44

Cade started all three matches in the last two weeks at left-winger. He had an assist and has shown a little more consistency than he has shown in the past.

#4 | RB, Nathan Harriel, Philadelphia Union (2001)

Previous Ranking: 4

1101 Minutes

Goals: 0
xGoals: 0.3
Assists:
1
xAssists: 0.3
G+A/90: 0.08

Nathan started both matches the last two weekends and has been very solid defensively. He has not recorded much xG or xA recently, but he continues to be an important starter for a good team.

#5 | GK, Gaga Slonina, Chicago Fire (2004)

Previous Ranking: 1

1260 minutes
GA/90: 1.43
PSxG +/-: -1.5

Gaga’s underlying stats continue to go in the wrong direction as does Chicago’s place in the table. Gaga is young and he is in the longest run of bad form in his career. He’s talented, he’ll work his way out of it at some point.

#6 | CM, Leon Flach, Philadelphia Union (2001)

Previous Ranking: 5

1123 minutes
Goals:
0
xGoals: 0.7
Assists: 1
xAssists: 0.3
G+A/90: 0.08

Leon started the last two matches and continued to be solid defensively, but slightly underwhelming offensively.

#7 | CM, Bryce Duke, Inter Miami (2001)

Previous Ranking: 14

492 Minutes
Goals: 1
xGoals: 1.8
Assists: 1
xAssists: 0.7
G+A/90: 0.37

Bryce has started the last six matches for Inter Miami and I don’t think it is a coincidence that his run of starts coincides with a positive run of form that Miami has been on. Bryce has been putting up a pretty impressive amount of xG/A per 90 and continues to find himself in dangerous spots. At this pace, Bryce is going to continue to climb near the top of this list.

#8 | WING, Brian Gutierrez, Chicago Fire (2003)

Previous Ranking: 8

548 Minutes
Goals:
0
xGoals: 0.6
2 Assist
xAssists: 1.3
G+A/90: 0.33

The past two weekends, Brian started one match and got a very short appearance off the bench in the other. It’s possible that we see Brian’s numbers drop with the DP signing Jairo Torres getting into fitness.

#9 | CM, Cameron Duke, Sporting Kansas City (2001)

Previous Ranking: 11

645 Minutes
Goals:
0
xGoals: 0.9
Assists: 2
xAssists: 1.0
G+A/90: 0.28

Cameron started in the midfield the past two weekends and put up some big xG and xA numbers in both matches.

#10 | CM, Obed Vargas, Seattle Sounders (2005)

Previous Ranking: 10

688 minutes
Goals: 0
xGoals: 0.2
Assists: 0
xAssists: 0.4
G+A/90: 0.0

Obed nearly had his first career goal on this banger attempt:

Previous Ranking: 7

710 minutes
Goals: 0
xGoals: 0.2
Assists: 0
xAssists: 0.3
G+A/90: 0.0

George is back from injury and has made an appearance off the bench in the last two matches. Is Atlanta easing him back in or has he lost his starting spot?

#12 | RB, Tayvon Gray, New York City FC (2002)

Previous Ranking: 9

518 minutes
Goals:
0
xGoals: 0.1
Assists: 0
xAssists: 0.5
G+A/90: 0.0

Tayvon is back from injury and has made two appearances off the bench since coming back from injury. Will he get his starting position bac soon?

#13 | DM, Sebastian Berhalter, Vancouver Whitecaps (2001)

Previous Ranking: 12

743 Minutes
Goals: 0
xGoals: 0.2
Assists: 0
xAssists: 0.2
G+A/90: 0.0

Sebastian has started 8 out of 11 matches for a struggling Vancouver.

#14 | CM, Aidan Morris, Columbus Crew (2001)

Previous Ranking: 16

384 minutes
Goals: 0
xGoals: 0.2
Assists: 0
xAssists: 0
G+A/90: 0.0

After a few weeks without an appearance, Aidan returned to the starting lineup last weekend and played a full 90. Columbus seems to play better when he is in the lineup (3-3-1), not sure why he continues to be in and out.

#15 | WING, Cameron Harper, NYRB (2001)

Previous Ranking: 25

155 Minutes
Goals: 1
xGoals: 0.2
Assists: 1
xAssists: 0.7
G+A/90: 1.16

Cameron followed up a big first match back with a start and a goal. Unfortunately Cameron missed NYRBs match last Saturday with a knock. Hopefully he comes back soon as it looks like he will have an important role this year. His goal wasn’t the most impressive (sorry Gaga):

#16 | WING, Owen Wolff, Austin FC (2004)

Previous Ranking: NR

246 minutes
Goals: 0
xGoals: 0.3
Assists: 1
xAssists: 1.2
G+A/90: 0.37

Owen Wolff appears on this list for the first time and climbs all the way up to 16. Owen has started the last three matches at right-winger for Austin and has played pretty well. He’s been creating a lot of chances and last weekend he had his first career assist. He is an ascending 17 year old who seems to have won a starting job over veteran Ethan Finlay for the time being. Owen will be one to keep a close eye on throughout the rest of the year. He could start to climb this list pretty quickly.

#17 | CB, Jaziel Orozco, Real Salt Lake (2004)

Previous Ranking: 17

315 Minutes
Goals:
0
xGoals: 0.1
xAssists: 0
Assists: 0
G+A/90: 0.0

Jaziel has not seen the pitch since the starting center-backs have been back healthy.

#18 | LB, Caleb Wiley, Atlanta United (2004)

Previous Ranking: 13

201 Minutes
Goals: 1
xGoals: 0.5
Assists: 0
xAssists: 1.1
G+A/90: 0.45

Caleb has not played since May 7th due to injury. With Andrew Gutman out for 8-12 weeks, Caleb has a big opportunity for some minutes if he can get back to fitness.

#19 | CM, Caden Clark, NYRB (2003)

Previous Ranking: 24

123 minutes
Goals:
0
xGoals:
0.2
Assists: 1
xAssists: 0.9
G+A/90: 0.73

Caden has returned from injury and is working his way back into fitness. He had a short sub appearance two matches ago and a longer one last weekend. In his last match he had a really nice early diagonal that led to a good chance and resulted in an own goal. Let’s hope this is the start of a good return to form for the talented attacking mid.

Indiana has come in off of loan from Aston Villa and has been an immediate contributor to Miami, a team that is starting to play much better. Indiana had one start and one long sub appearance in the last two matches. He is still waiting on his first goal contribution.

#23 | AM, Griffin Yow, DC United (2002)

Previous Ranking: 19

271 minutes
